Welcome to The Center for Semiarid Land Ecology

The mission of the Center for Semiarid Land Ecology is to be a leader in research on conservation of wildlife and vegetation indigenous to semiarid regions. The specific mission is to support graduate student research on ecological problems in semiarid lands of Texas and other areas of the world.

COMMITMENT

We are committed to developing a strong research program focused on conservation of wildlife and native vegetation of semiarid lands in Texas and other areas of the world. Specifically, our commitment focuses on providing sound scientific information about the ecological relationships existing between wildlife and native vegetation and with regards to human aspects, water needs, vegetation change, and restoration of native plants and plant communities in areas invaded by exotic plants. This commitment is grounded on the premise that wildlife, plants, and natural communities in semiarid regions of the world are ecologically and culturally important and are being lost to urbanization, overgrazing, and invasion of exotic plants. These trends will continue as human populations expand and place growing pressures on natural resources in semiarid lands.
