Groundcherries
(Physalis cinerascens, Physalis lobata)
Groundcherries are low-growing perennials found infrequently on clays, loams and deep sands in the Rio Grande Plains and Coastal Prairies. The leaves and fruit are important forage for white-tailed deer, Rio Grande turkey and javelinas. The seeds also provide good forage for bobwhite quail and mourning doves.
