A variety of mistflowers grow in South Texas. Mistflowers are perennial, warm season forbs that usually grow underneath the canopies of trees and shrubs, although some also grow in open areas in full sun. They are browsed by white-tailed deer and livestock, and are important butterfly nectar plants. Mistflowers produce seed throughout the summer and fall. They make nice landscape plants and attract butterflies when in bloom. Mistflower seeds easily germinate if temperatures are between 68-86º F. They can also be propagated vegetatively from semi-hardwood and softwood cuttings. Cuttings should be treated with rooting hormone.
