Common Buttonbush


(Cephalanthus occidentalis)

Common buttonbush is generally a shrub or small tree 2-10 m. in height sometimes reaching 15 m, and often swollen at the base.  Mostly found in swamps, margins of ponds, streams, and other low areas throughtout Texas.  The dry nutlets are eaten by a number of water birds, but are reportedly toxic to other animals.
