Berdon Lawrence was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He graduated from Tulane University in 1964 with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and in 1965 with a Master’s in Business Administration. He is currently President of L3 Partners, LLC, a family business office that manages investments and real estate. He has served as Chairman of the Board for Kirby Corporation from 1999-2010. He was founder and President of Hollywood Marine, a privately owned tank barge company which operated tank barges and towboats. In 1999, Hollywood Marine merged with Kirby Corporation. He currently serves as Chairman Emeritus of the Waterways Council. He has served as Past Chairman of the Inland Waterways Users Board, National Waterways Conference, and The American Waterways Operators. He is also involved in several community organizations including the Galveston Bay Foundation, St. Martins Episcopal Church, The Kinkaid School, Baylor College of Medicine Board of Trustees and M.D. Anderson Board of Visitors. Berdon is an avid quail hunter and spends much of his time on his ranch in Brooks County. Berdon is married to Rolanette and has one daughter, Heather, and two sons, Mark and Charles, and six grandchildren.
