Plains lovegrass is low growing native bunchgrass found on a variety of soils in south Texas. It is an excellent early successional species that has excellent potential for use in restoration plantings. Plains lovegrass produces seed commonly eaten by bobwhite quail and Rio Grande wild turkeys. Forage value is fair to poor for livestock. The seed structures, seed yield, and good establishment characteristics make it an excellent candidate for development. Plains lovegrass has high potential for use in highway rights-of-way plantings. STN and the PMC are working with several accessions of this species for a future release.
