Ellen Temple, of Lufkin and Austin, is a conservationist, a writer, a publisher, and most recently a co-producer of the PBS documentary film "Citizens at Last" with Nancy Schiesari. Ellen has explored women's history for decades, supporting research and publication in the field, establishing the Liz Carpenter Prize in 1992 and endowing a University of Texas history department chair in women's history. She has served as a member of The University of Texas Board of Regents, as president of the board of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, and as a current member of the board of the T.L.L. Temple Foundation. A member of the Texas Institute of Letters and of the Philosophical Society of Texas, Ellen has also won many awards for conservation and is the sponsor of East Texas Natives, a program of the Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute. She and her late husband Buddy Temple have 4 children and 6 grandchildren.
