Serving Since
Rachel Walters received her undergraduate education at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania where she studied both high altitude river food web ecosystems in the Rockies, and snail-borne trematodes in rural Pennsylvania. Rachel's research briefly took her to Lassen Volcanic National Park, where she studied plague, before joining Drs. Martin and Rideout-Hanzak at Texas A&M University-Kingsville to study prescribed fire effects on tick abundance and tick-borne diseases. Rachel has a passion for disease ecology, zoonoses, and disease transmission, with a focus on how environmental factors impact disease dynamics, as well as holding a bachelors degree in Biology.
