Common curlymesquite is a stoloniferous, warm season, perennial grass that grows throughout South Texas. It is common on calcareous and alkaline soils in the Rio Grande Plain. Where present, curly mesquite can be the dominant grass, forming large bunches on the landscape. Curly mesquite provides good forage for livestock. This grass can be propagated by division of stolons. Curly mesquite has potential uses as a turf grass, and for use in controlling erosion. Propagation from seed is extremely difficult.
